Trump’s ‘bonkers’ tariffs are a product of ignorance (Times Radio)

Published 4 April 2025

Michael Gasiorek critiques the methodology behind the calculation of Trump’s proposed tariffs around the world, describing it as fundamentally flawed and deeply inequitable in this Times Radio interview: “We’ve got 49% tariffs on Cambodia I think, 44% tariffs on Sri Lanka, countries that export a very small amount in total value terms. They are not important for the US in terms of the imports that the US gets from these countries. These are poor countries, and they are being hit very hard with substantial tariffs. So, the way the calculation has been done is by and large bonkers and I think it is deeply unfair”.
