The UK-EU reset: rebuilding a strategic partnership in uncertain times

Published 9 April 2025

In this written evidence, we recommend that the UK: seeks an ambitious agreement with the EU that includes scope for dynamic alignment; align the ETS with that of the EU, and then also align its CBAM; expands regulatory cooperation as provided for in the TCA and ensure devolved nations have meaningful input into UK negotiating positions on the EU-UK reset, particular those in devolved areas, such as agrifood and environment; aim for more flexible rules of origin to help UK and EU businesses; and further reduce barriers to services trade, e.g. the mutual recognition of professional qualifications (no link to actual submission available).
