House of Lords International Agreements Committee Inquiry on Trade in a turbulent world: how should the UK deploy its trade instruments

In this evidence, we argue that the UK's trade policy should remain firmly rooted in the rules-based international trading system, while adapting to growing geopolitical tensions, supply chain risks and economic security concerns. We warn against abandoning the WTO-led system despite its current weaknesses and instead recommend reform, closer cooperation with allies and greater transparency over new trade agreements.
