Research Associate - CITP Policy Coherence

Cardiff University
This post is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term for 18 months and is available from June 2024

Salary: £39,347
Closing date: Sunday, 28 April 2024

We are looking for a political scientist, social scientist or legal scholar with a portfolio of research or relevant industrial experience within trade law, policy and/or politics who can undertake qualitative research as well as literature reviews.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP) to look at how domestic policy development is shaped by/shaping UK trade policy.
It is one of three posts within a suite of collaborative projects run by a team at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and Cardiff University under CITP’s research theme ‘Negotiating a Turbulent World’ on the governance of UK trade policy.

The Transversal Policy Coherence project evaluates coherence of inputs and outcomes across sectors (for example trade policy and environmental/climate change, health, agri-food policies). It considers the implications of policy coherence/incoherence for policy formulation and development. It assesses the challenges associated with policy coherence within the decision-making processes and across jurisdictions. Crucially, it analyses the extent to which a whole government approach (both UK and devolved) is adopted. It draws on a range of political science and socio-legal methods including interviews and focus groups.
